Wat arrives in clay dishes, still warm from the kitchen. It has been simmering for hours — berbere, onion, garlic, and time — until it is deep and rounded rather than simply hot. Spoon it over injera and eat with your hands.
We ferment our injera every day, so the teff batter is never more than a day old. It comes to the table soft, faintly sour, and ready to be torn. When a platter empties, we bring more.
Green beans are roasted at your table, then ground and brewed in a jebena while the smoke settles over the room. It takes a little time, and that is the point. Order it after the meal, or in the middle of it.
Lamps sit low over the tables and the room stays softly lit through the evening. It is easy to stay longer than you planned — most people do.
On Friday and Saturday nights, live traditional music fills the room from the early evening. If you would like a quieter corner, ask when you book and we will seat you further from the players.

Our wat is slow-simmered with berbere, but dishes can be prepared milder on request — just say so when you order and the kitchen will adjust.

Most of the menu is shareable — clay dishes of wat and baskets of injera set in the middle of the mesob for everyone to reach into.
A vegetarian fasting platter is always available, with lentils, greens and pulses, whether or not it is a fasting day.
